一、背格式
小作文重格式的特点要求考生们在格式上不能犯错，熟悉一些应用文的格式和英文中应用文的表达习惯。句子无误是小作文得高分的第一步。
1、称呼格式
1)对陌生的团体负责人的称谓：Dear Madam or Dear Sir
2)用于对认识但是关系很正式的个人、组织或团体负责人的称谓：Dear Ms.... or Dear Mr. ...
3)用于对关系亲密的人的称谓：Dear Tom/Lucy (or any other name)
2、正文格式
缩进式: 段落之间无空行，每段开头空四个字母。
3、落款格式
落款时可以使用下列万能格式：

三、布局
小作文的布局上一般可以分为三段展开。
第一段：开门见山，直接点明主题。
第二段：摆出内容，陈述原因，罗列建议。
第三段：回应首段，再次感谢，期待回复。
四、语言
用词准确：用词准确是最基础的.要求之一。
语法正确：语法错误是考试的失分重点所在，在小作文的写作中应尽量少用缩略语和口语。
句型多变：例如既有并列句，也有复合句，还有从句。
小作文的考查要求中会体现出文章的背景场合和写作目的，考生应针对不同情境选择不同表达。不同的应用文有不同的用语，建议大家对某些应用文的格式和习惯用语加以熟悉和背诵，以便考场中运用自如。
虽说小作文的字数不多，但考生们最好还是不要忙于动笔，仔细审题后，先理清思路，认真列个提纲再下笔。写作时，建议大家应注意以下几个方面的问题：
第一，交代清楚目的;
第二，注意关联词或衔接词的运用，以便阅卷老师明了篇章结构;
第三，有必要时对个人观点进行适当阐述;
第四，用简短的语句代替冗长的语句，行文切忌复杂。最后，完成作文以后，应该检查、修改，以免需要表达清楚的细节和要点被遗漏。
